Also someone with a mortgage gets a lot less than someone who's renting gets in Rent Allowance.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,930 ✭✭✭COYW

Rent allowance is an utter killer. It is providing a false base for renting thus contributing to high rents. Cut rent allowance and rents will fall all round.

I have never once seen a Irish person working in supermacs in eyre square and its lies people dont want to work these jobs, if you go to Burger King down the road from supermacs the vast majority of workers are Irish.

Kenny isn't able to give Burton a good grilling on social welfare issues - he's harmless and with such important issues at stake why should he, isn't he on at least 600,000 a year!!!

Anytime I've been in, there has been plenty of Irish people working, sweeping generalisations aren't great tbh

Is Kenny living in her constituency? Does he know her? The Frontline should be called "Yes Minister". Give the show to VB and then we'll get answers!

    Does she know anything......?

    Absolute disaster

    Fixed your post.

As TDs go, she is absolutely awful. It appears she hasn't gota clue about what she's talking about most of the time. Nearly every second sentence from her since being elected is 'burn the bond holders'.

Imagine if she had got Finance - no wonder she didn't, they knew what they were doing when they demoted her.

Are you accusing Supermacs of paying foreigners below the minimum wage? Or have you another reason why they would avoid hiring Irish people?

I hope Burton realises that she has to talk to the Minister For Justice to discuss the huge increase in crime that is coming if she stops Anto and Wacker's doss money

You could probably summarise that last hour

Audience: The Dept of Social Welfare are difficult to deal with, critical, harsh, overly officious. More people deserve Social Welfare but are not getting it.

Burton: We need as few people on Social Welfare as possible and back in the magical jobs. Have no idea where they go as long as it's not Social Welfare.

Two opposed sides getting absolutely nowhere.

I'd sum it up a little different.

There was a lot of interesting comments from the audience in the first part then the Minister turned up and in descended into a bland conversation between Pat & the Minister.

No i would say they pay the min alright but i think they dont like to hire Irish people because they can treat foreign workers anyway they want and they wont complain.
It really is odd when you see Burger King nearby with mostly all Irish works and none in Supermacs or maybe the odd one.

    It's not odd at all.

Supermacs has been open in Eyre Square since before the Celtic Tiger. So for many years, it has employed foreigners due to the Irish not wanting to take up work there during the good times.

Burger King in Galway only opened up in the last 2 years. When they opened, many Irish people were again prepared to go for the fast food jobs. During the CT they weren't.

bruton say's, she feels like she is doing the leaving cert in social welfare since she came into the department, it's so complicated ?.

This is nuts, this woman needs to move over and allow someone in that does know about social welfare issues and the way it works. she is and will be a complete disaster for a lot of people if she carries on.
