I think in a way, people who desire a United Ireland will vote for Martin Mc Guinness.

If he is voted in as President, will this force the Irish government to move the Re-unification issue on further ?

What ever his personal views are The formal powers and functions of the President are prescribed in the Constitution. The President, who does not have an executive or policy role, exercises them on the advice of the Government.

How would it? The people of Northern Ireland are in charge. We are in control of our own destiny.

    Absolutely Keith:rolleyes:

But if the majority of people vote for a Pro-united Ireland candidate ,will it force FG to push the unification issue or to make more of a case or offer incentives to the British people in Northern Ireland to accept a united Ireland. Afterall, British people in Northern Ireland would have substantial bargaining strenght in a United Ireland. Way more bargaining strenght than they do have within the UK.

Doubt it. He was only on 16% in sunday's poll. That level of support doesn't suggest any momentum for change.

No because they are Republican ideals. The majority of people in Northern Ireland support the Union. As far as the Republic of Ireland is concerned, this question has been answered. The rest of the parties in the Republic couldn't care less.

That's partly my point, None of the Political parties besides SF give a rats ass about re-unification. If there was a sway towards a Pro unification candidtate would they not have to follow the votes and start shouting about their pro-unification credentials.

Thanks to the likes of Martin McGuinness "in charge" and "we are in control of our own destiny" is longer a term only usable by Unionists, but by all citizens of Northern Ireland.

I know. By giving Nationalists more of a say, it has only improved the position of the Union. Should have done it years ago tbh.

Same could be said for the parties in England, and the Queen too!

No s**t! It's a pity it took a civil war for Unionists to be so generous to give their neighbours "more of a say". It's also a pity some see it as a means to further Unionism rather than further an equal and just society in Northern Ireland.

How about building up our economy (were doing it)
Investing in education and dismantling the mistakes of the previous government before we worry about frivolous issues.

Check the cost of running the services of northern Ireland to its channels of income, it's a money pit as bad as bailing out the banks.
Sinn Fein haven't ruined the economy but if they forced a united ireland in the next five to ten years they would cripple it outright.
