Hey There . Right so I'm a former scout and avid hiker and now I'm in a position where I'd like to get back into it. Well things have changed since I last went hiking , especially the jumps in clothing technology.
I have to say I've been doing a fair bit of research into this and I have a pretty good idea of what I need to get myself started, money ! :D
I don't have a lot of that so when I stumbled into trailways in the Swan Center today I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the Trespass gear on offer , and was even more surprised at the low cost of said gear.

So after beating around the bush a bit I'd like to ask the afficionados of hiking if they have ever used Trespass equipment and what they thought of it ??
I really am on a tight budget and am thinking of getting a good quality waterproof soft shell , and using a layer system underneath.

I do a lot of hiking, scrambling and climbing and I use a mix of gear, most of it bought on eBay or in TKMaxx. I have Columbia, North Face, Patagonia, Rab and Berghaus stuff.

I have a Trespass waterproof trousers that has stood up to some serious abuse for the last 6 years.

I recently went on a guided Alpine trip and we were sent a list of clothing and equipment we needed; the list specifically mentioned NOT to bring Regatta stuff. I'm not sure if this was snobbery or if there was a real reason behind it, maybe it doesn't wick well.

Overall, if I was on a tight budget(which I am) I'd go with Trespass; but don't forget to look in TKMaxx as well.

For the outer waterproof shell, the black Colombia Titanium jackets that seem to be permanently on 'sale' in some shops are good value.

Spend as much as you can on good boots!

I think they're on sale in Maher's in Cork since around about the time of Mallory and Irvine's attemnpt on Everest!

I must say I think them very good though. Though it zips from the left, like a guuuuurls...

Thanks Chris, I'll definately have a look around TKMaxx , and I intend to spend a fair bit on boots . After all if you look after your feet they look after you .

Is it not still in Parnell Place, beside the bus station?

Ya that's where it is. I reckon its one of the best places to go for gear in Cork as the prices are reasonable for most stuff and they have a good selection. They also seem to have stuff from the cheaper makes to the more expensive ones.

Well it's either in Oliver Plunkett Street or neighbouring Parnell Place.

Surely people who are into trekking and navigation will be able to find it in that general area! :D

By the way , I bought a lovely jacket and heat-trap fleece in Trailfinders in Rathmines . The fleece is excellent , very warm indeed.
The jacket , well I can't sing it's praises enough, it's warm , deflects all wind and I wore it out today,if you live in Dublin you'll know what the weather was like (pissing down)and it kept me 100% dry .
For a cheaper alternative to some of the more expensive brands it really stands up in it's own right.

    Hi all

I was in the Nutgrove shopping center yesterday and I saw that a new Trespass shop has just opened up there with a 20% off sale on everything going on. I picked up a good soft shell jacket for €70 and a pair of boots for €70 also. The staff were friendly and seemed to know that they were talking about.

I used trespass gear before on hikes before found it very good
