Walking in the rain when the streets have been cleared of most other humans. Go down to the river and watch the ducks. Have a fag. Get soaked. Go home. Put on pjamas and watch something good. Food and drink supplies neccessary.
    I love rain.

When I want to get away from life I have this ritual which, when done correctly, is guaranteed to get results.

First I get my favourite ice-cream from the freezer and prepare a bowl. I like to add some drinking chocolate to jazz it up a bit. This part depends on an individual's taste and any ice-cream will do.

Then I set up my foot spa. I like it to be quite warm so that I can leave my feet there for 90 minutes or so.

For entertainment, I pick out a good movie and set it up. It should be ready to play without having to get up from my seat after getting my feet wet.

Finally, I fetch some beer, tobacco, other stuff and some long cable-ties. I prepare my exotic cigarette, start it up, stick my feet into the foot-spa, press play and then tighten a cable-tie around my neck. It starts out quite relaxing but then it gets intense after a minute. Then after a few moments as I fight the urge to loosen the cable-tie, I completely disconnect myself from life, never to return.

I generally go for a long walk home from work (go well out of the way and back), do some people-watching, maybe have a pint or two with the paper. If at home, I get out and about. When you say disconnect from life, usually people mean "disconnect from what's in my head", so I just go outside where there's any number of things I wouldn't have witnessed by sitting in.

    I find that's a good thing alright.

One can get really absorbed in a task.

They say, as you get into middle age you either choose God or the Garden.

    I chose the Garden.:D

I'm pretty good at distracting or loosing myself in some way, shape or form be it in a book ,a movie or some music .The productive side of me will fix or mend something or it might be something physical and simple like cleaning the windows . A nice few pints or a few bottles of wine in good company is a bonus disconnection .

    Alcohol and origami.
Not together though, that wouldn't turn out the best.
And when I'm stressed from exams and want to zone out for a while I cook. Even if it means baking rock solid inedible muffins, it really helps me disconnect.

I take a really long shower, go to bed and catch up on any tv I've wanted to watch but have missed (and there is always quite a list). Or else I just sleep. That's pretty disconnected.
