I was driving along fine this morning and then i noticed the car was lacking power not badly but as if there was a strong wind blowing against me, then i stopped at lights and the car wouldn't idle and conked out it started again but i had to keep the revs up to keep it running, i carried on another 5-10 miles but the power lack was annoying me it was like i was driving in 5th gear when i should have been in 3rd so i pulled over and parked up again car conked out when revs dropped. I opened up the bonnet to check everything oil etc all ok checked for warning lights and turned the key this time it turned but wouldn't fire left it at that and phoned the garage man came out towed it away and the mechanic phoned there and said "your timing belts gone and i'd say there will be a lot of damage done as its usually the case when timing belt goes"

So im just wondering if this sounds like a timing belt going cause i had a timing belt go in my last car but it went with a bang and stopped dead in the middle of the road!

The car is a 1.4 petrol peugeot 307 with circa 60000 miles on the clock

Sounds more like the timing belt slipped which is nearly as bad as it going.
Everything out of sync and colliding things that shouldn't collide.
Though if it had slipped surley there would be an almighty clattering going on?

Sounds a little like something that happened me before when the Camshaft Pulley wore it's threads. Worth asking him to take a look at it?
