Car insurance query

My dad was invoveld in an incident recently and i just wanted to check for any advice / opinions / facts on it. He was waiting to turn right off a main road into a private house / side road and was at the edge of his lane so cars could pass behind him going in the same direction as he was. There was a car approaching from the opposite direction. He saw the driver turn around to kids or something in the back of the car and when he turned back he saw my dad still waiting to turn across the lane, paniced and swerved into a wall. Got out and said it was my dad's fault. Dad reckons he did nothing wrong and there was plenty of space on the other guys lane to drive on without an issue. They exchanged insurance details and the other drived called the guards who came out and said to dad he didnt cause the accident etc.

Now both parties are insured with the same insurance company. Does anyone know if this will affect my dad's policy? Should he have just left the scene as his car wasn't in the accident as such? Should he not have given insurance details?

    Thanks.

should not affect him as it appears not to be his fault (based on what you wrote) Get a report of the guards just in case they try and raise a claim.

The Gardai wouldn't give an opinion on blame in those circumstances I'd suggest. If nobody was injured it's a civil matter only.

If your Dad's car was stationery in the correct lane and wholly on it's correct side of the road I can't see how he'd be liable.

Ultimately however it may come down to who can prove what. For example it'd be impossible to prove where the other driver was looking before he crashed.
