basically we had the wireless cisco router installed in our house.. works fine until for some reason it seems to reset the connection now and again (approx every 10 mins)
.. i dont know if this happens when nobody is on it but it happens alot when i'm streaming, downloading and sometimes i get disconnected from xbox live!!
getting to be a real pain in the sack!
does anyone else have similar problems? if i was to hazard a guess its the line in my area or im being throttled for no reason!
i once had to change the original settings on another UPC box (in another house)so my computer could connect! seems to me the routers they are using are complete bollix!
and while i'm still on a rant i have to say their digital plus box is crap too. the first one we got didnt even work! kept resetting every 5 mins.

I had the same problem. Called UPC technical team, found a sound guy, he logged in remotely to the router, changed some setting while I was on the phone. Since that day (more than a month now) never had a reset problem. I have never switched off my router after that day as I have the phone as well.

Before that it was the same, the router was resetting itself every 10-15 min or so.

Yes. Best give the technical team a call. Tell them that their team sorted someone by remotely logging. They may do the same for you, you just need to point them doing that because it depends on the guy you are talking to.

This has started happening me recently but it only happens during the day, I suspect they're doing some cabling up the line somewhere and my connection gets reset, it never happens in the evening.

My cousin recently called me around to his new house as he has just gotten upc broadband in and one of those cisco routers, his wireless signal was almost zero even if sitting beside it.

I changed the wireless channel which I couldn't believe was set to channel 1 to channel 11 and bingo no probs since...dunno if that's the same problem you are having but mite be worth a shot.

That's really weird. The day I called, in fact he first asked me to enable a setting that was required for him to be able to log in remotely.

I turned the setting on, he logged in remotely, changed some setting and then asked me to switch off the setting so that no one else can login. Also I remember he asked me to connect via a network cable to the router to change the setting. Didnt really understand that part because I could have changed the setting connected via wifi as well. May be he was going by the books.

They have the capability and to sort out a technical issue they can log in, there's nothing illegal about it because until you turn on the setting they cant log in. In effect you are giving permission to trouble shoot.

It's UPC equipment any way, so I dont understand whats illegal about it.

It may be the case that this guy did not know what to do and found a exit by saying illegal.

I can 100% confirm that my setting was changed and after that day never had a router reset problem, so speed issues either.

I dont know how their shift works but I called around 6pm and it was a weekday.

I guess the key here is to find a right guy who knows about it. May be worth giving a try again.

I tried that before calling but that didnt work for me. My problem was router resetting itself. It does help if you select a channel which is not much used around you. No interference helps speed.

Here is a handy little link to see what channels people around you are using.
    http://tools.meraki.com/stumbler#q=

Select a channel which is least used or may be unused.

Ye it was some pig of a woman I was talking to. I'm going to hop the router off the wall and tell them I want a replacement due to mental anguish in trying to fix it on my own.

There you go :) As I said its worth a try calling again to see if you can find someone else.

One day I am going to take screenshots of all the settings in my router (if it allows me to go on every screen) and post it here. That may help some of the fellow boardies. As it looks like there's quite few people here having the same problem.

That makes no sense what channel is your router broadcasting on?

happens me when a new iphone comes in to the house and tries to connect.. knocks all my connected devices out.

This was happening to me not so long ago. I'd be disconnected every hour on the button, then I got the tech. team to log in to the router and they changed the lease or something. Anyway, after that it started disconnecting every 10 seconds or so, meaning remote troubleshooting was now impossible.

I then arranged a call-out where the kind man replaced my router, and it has been grand since. Fingers bloody crossed. The problems only began for me when I got the phone feature enabled, could just be coincidence though...

Finally getting a call out for tomorrow. I have tried everything, changing channels, security, different router etc, all to no avail. The tech person just wanted me to upgrade to 50mb + phone and I said no just cancel the bloody thing. She put me through to the loyalty dept and they did everything to keep me as a customer since I'm with them for 4 years.

well i finally got mine sorted (i think) .. no problems so far. wasnt in the house when the technician came but he fitted a new line in the wall , it was originally an old NTL box and now a new UPC one. also gave us a new router ..
i also have an iphone and havent connected it to this new one but i dont think ill bother in case something does happen..

just as another note.. the first router started working again come sunday night but would reset itself EXACTLY 1 hour apart! at 6.12pm , 7.12pm etc etc..
im almost sure its the settings within the boxes that cause all this.

If you ring them up what UPC usually do is change the name of the router (so that your password is easier to remember or something), that's how I know the router has reset. Same thing happened our router recently, it was called one name, then the other day it turned itself off and when it came back on the original name of it was back, meaning any mobile device we'd attached to it had to be sorted out to work online again. Pain in the hole!!

Ok the engineer came out and replaced the old netgear router with a new cisco all in one modem/router. I was still losing the connection but only for a minute or so every 45 mins. I downloaded net stumbler to see what channels my neighbors were using for wifi and changed my channel to 3 channels away from the nearest one and it's now working perfectly.

My UPC internet has stopped working this evening in the Lucan area. I have the Scientific Atlanta modem - the "US" light is flashing and the "ONLINE" light is off. I have reset the modem a few times but no luck.
Anyone else have same problem or suggest solution? Do UPC tech support work over weekend?
    Cheers!

    Wondering if someone could help

My UPC TV box is acting up down stairs, recently got the recorder box sent out just before xmas...I'll be watching it then it goes all blurry.
IF im watching a match the players have doubles and cant make out whos who on the ball.....change the station and the text i.e station and whats on is like its doubled the text and overwrites on top of what is supposed to be there which makes it unreadable...

can happen 10mins in to watching something or 30 mins in...

Its not the tv as i can watch a DVD without any problem
There is no problems with my box upstairs and its not a recorderable box

    anyone have this issue? thanks
