    hi,

does anyone know of where i'd pick up a set of steel rims, or used alloys, for a ford focus 2011 in or near to cork?

Ive tried part finder but having no joy. Ive just got a quote of €74 from ford for a rim and eiretyres seem to be around €100.

    thanks

adverts has a great selection of used alloys, also try the local breakers yard, not sure what the PCD is of a 2011 focus but other makes might fit also.

Have you tried popping in to one of the Ford dealers in Cork?

Wouldn't be surprised if they have a few steelies knocking around. If you are very nice to the guys in parts / stores, they might be able to do you a deal on them.

Would never consider used alloys, since most of all alloys in Ireland are 50p shaped, due to people not looking where they're driving and our boulder strewn, potholed backroads.
Or at least not buy them unseen. You could buy them online, have them sent to you and discover they're FUBAR.
Don't buy a set that you can't inspect yourself in person, better still, take them down to a tyre place and have them give them a spin on the balancing machine. That way you can be sure.
There's a good reason that most cars with a preposterous set of alloy wheels ALWAYS have one manky, rusty steel rim on them.

looked on alloys.com and got these results
    Make : Ford Model : Focus 5 Stud Year : 04> PCD : 5x108 Offset : 35 to 52 Bore : 63.4 Fittings : N 12x1.5
Using the carlsalter page i can't find any car that has an offset of 35 to 52?

I am in the same boat as you, looking for a set of steel or alloy rims for winter tires. Mines for a Golf (06) and in and around Cork, most the ones I called on done deal are crap and bashed about a bit or have been given a dodgy spray to make them look better.

Wow. I assume you would never consider a used car then either? "Most cars with .. alloys have one manky steel rim on them"...!? Come on, most cars? Very uncommon sight where I drive.

You do realise that Alloys can be fixed (if required) very easily, safely and cheaply (30 to 40 a wheel)? I picked up a set of BBS type 19 wheels with the lacquer peeling, bit of a repaint and they will look excellent. Same as my Style 32 BMW wheels. The BBS are EUR1200 used on ebay (when cleaned up) and the BMW about 2 grand from the dealer. I bought them for EUR300 each.

Brand name German made wheels are ridiculously strong, a buckled OEM or Branded aftermarket wheel is a rarity.. and still so so easy to fix.

Wonder who makes the Opel ones then? Have 2 badly cracked 18" Insignia Wheels in the garage :(

In my experience most Fords have 50p wheels. And they are Ford OEM wheels.
Went to a Ford dealer to look at cars, every single one had fcuked wheels.
But this is Co Clare, backroads are terrible and the farmers and mammies don't look where they're going.
Saw on CMax on sale where the outside of the rim was buckled.
That car must have hit a massive hole at 100 km/h without slowing down.
Salesman all "surprised" when I pointed it out to him.
Maybe around the capital cars are better looked after, but here in the pale cars are treated like sh*te and driven over boulder fields at full speed.

Thats a confusing sentence.. what capital and what Pale are you talking about, cos on my map they are virtually one and the same!

Does anyone really consider Opel to be a German brand though!?

You're saying that all alloys on cars are in fine nick and none of them are buckled, well in my experience they are.
Because the great car driving public couldn't care, wouldn't bother to check and wouldn't know if every single wheel on their car was warped.
I went to a Ford main dealer and I'd say that every single car had at least one bent wheel on it.
When I pointed this out, I got the carefully studied mock surprise that all salesmen practice in front of a mirror when someone points out the flaw in their product.
What did they do when I said I want the wonky wheels replaced?
Took the wobbly wheels of the car I was looking at and put them on two other, identical cars. That's right, between three CMax, they barely scraped together a half decent set of wheels.
And I can guarantee you ANY money that the two other cars where sold with warped wheels and that the people who bought them would never know that in a million years unless it was pointed out to them.
It's nice that your car has a straight set of wheels and it's good to know that someone knows and cares about that, but my point is that an awful lot of wheels out there are warped.

    Yeah, Opel is GM.
Ford is as much a "German" brand now, a lot are made in Cologne.

If you are buying your winter tyres off Eiretyres they supply steel rims at good value also, the winter tyres arrive fitted and balanced on the rims and all you have to do is jack the car up and change the wheels over yourself. I ordered winter tyres and steel rims from them for the wife's Polo last year, great job!
