Join the fight for Mental Health!

Last week I saw in the Metro that there was the launch of a petition to stop the government from cutting anymore from Mental health services, apparently 20% of staff that were lost from the HSE in 2010 were from Mental health services even though they are only 9% of the total workforce!

Am I the only one appalled by this! You would think that in a recession and with the rise of suicides that this would be something the government would be eager to deal with head on and at least keep the funding the same, let alone slashing it to ribbons !

It is literally life and death, and because mental health is still such a taboo subject it seems to be going unnoticed.

I think it is running theme in AH that we all are sick of the apathy Irish people show, Join the Fight!

(I apologise for the excessive use of the exclaims but I am damn angry!)

I'm in two minds about this.

The funding is irrelevant. Everything to do with mental health in Ireland is backward. Reform would be a much better thing to lobby for.

Wasn't one of Fine Gael's pre-election promises to protect and improve mental health services? I mean they wouldn't lie to us in order to secure votes, would they?!

The group running this are called Mental Health Reform. Definitely we need to get away from big institutions and the old way of thinking about Mental Health issues but how can we even start to do that if they keep taking away staff from some of the most vulnerable people in Ireland!
