You need to VRT the car before you can NCT it. VRT needs to be booked within 7 days of the car arriving, and VRT paid within 30 days IIRC. Once the car is VRT'd you can then book the NCT for it. Once it's insured, you should be fine to drive it. I'd have a print off of the VRT booking in the car in case you get stopped

I actually should have said VRT inspection, it's just they're carried out by the same people now. It's an 06 (Audi A4) so no NCT needed yet as far as I'm aware. Thanks.

If it's over four years old it needs an NCT...

An Austrian car in Ireland :D

Ring VRT immediately, they'll tell you what you need.

Thanks, I thought NCT was only for cars over 10 years. I guess there wasn't enough money in it for the testers. ;)

    It's mentioned above ;), nothing exciting I'm afraid. Exciting = tax/insurance nightmare.

How long have u owed it?
People who have owned and used their vehicles abroad for more than 6 months and who are moving permanently to Ireland
If you are moving to Ireland and are among those exempt from paying VRT you cannot sell your vehicle for more than 12 months after the vehicle is registered.

Longer than that thanks. I assume it still has to have the inspection regardless of whether VRT is due.

There is a black Holden hsv (vxr8) knocking around dundrum. I spotted it parked up a few times, stunning machine, tax disc says Holden on it.
