Woods appoints Joe LaCava as new caddy

Just confirmed by Butch Harmon on Sky Sports.

Apparently Dustin Johnson (LaCava's employer until today) told Harmon about it earlier this evening.

LaCava's most famous for being Fred Couples' long term bagman.

Hopefully evidence that Woods isn't going to give up the game (as suggested by Bernard Gallagher the other day).

This is a strange move for LaCava in my eyes. Going from Johnson, the 6th best player in the World according to rankings, to the 49th, Tiger. You'd say one thing if Tiger's loss of form was temporary, but it's been going on 18 months now. It's 50/50 as to whether he'll ever get back to the top of the game. At the moment you'd have to say Johnson's future looks decidedly brighter.

Pretty poor form that the news was released just at the climax of the FedEx playoffs IMO

LaCava has a small family and wants to spend more time with them. Johnson will be playing more on the European tour while Woods plays a limited number of tournaments. His schedule may suit LaCava a lot more. Also, there could be significant spin offs if he is part of a Woods revival.

woods has a bit of a history of this, didnt he have that press conference in the giant suit at the time of the accenture, and he did somethin else, but i cant remember, along the lines of disturbing an event with one of his announcements

That up and down from Haas on the second play off hole was unreal, the last 2 hours of that was some great stuff. They may need to simplify the points system, sky didnt mention who was in line to win and what the different permutations where at all for the last hour or so

just on bbc, the main headline is about woods caddy, not the solhiem cup or Haas. Doesnt make sense

In fairness it was Dustin Johnson who told Harmon, who announced it live on Sky. So Tiger didn't try to upstage anything really.

Apparantly Johnson is unhappy that Woods approached his caddy without consulting him first which is the proper etiquette. But then what does Woods know about etiquette ?

Didn't think Dustin Johnson would be playing a whole lot in Europe?

He has actually played quite a few tournaments in Europe and has signed up for this weeks Dunhill Links in Scotland, have a huge admiration for him as lots of americans don't make an effort!

Will be a legend of the game over the next 15 years as long as he does not get injured!

True, and I may be playing devil's advocate, but I'd find it hard to believe that this becoming public knowledge didn't at least have Woods' tacit approval.
