Ok so I am a student. I wanted to get a weekly rail ticket from Balbriggan to Dublin Pearse because I'm at college everyday.

Long story short, I now have an adult weekly ticket asking for a CIE number and I'm not entirely sure what to do. I don't know whether I should have a student weekly ticket... but I'm stuck with this one for the week now. Will I put my student card number on the ticket?

Oh dear! You need a valid CIE photo id before you purchase a weekly or monthly adult ticket but You may be able to get an adult id card to cover your adult weekly ticket at your local station if the information on the Irish Rail website is true
Weekly Tickets are valid for one week from Sunday to Saturday within the designated Zone. ID Cards required, which are available at any Iarnród Éireann Booking Office, on production of passport-sized photograph.
    http://www.irishrail.ie/your_ticket/ticket_types.asp

Now if you intend purchasing a student ticket you should have a student travel card from here

No other student card will do and if stopped without this student card on a train or dart expect the maximum fine.

also afaik the best student ticket available to you is the student monthly short hop ticket. as all other weekly tickets do not cover short hop commuter trains
    Student Monthly Short Hop €96.00

Valid for unlimited travel for 1 calendar month
Valid on Dublin Bus scheduled services including Xpresso (excluding Airlink, Nitelink, Tours, Special Events and Private Contract services) and DART and Suburban Rail services
    Student Travelcard required

Oh dear indeed :o I have a student travelcard yes, I just don't have a student ticket. Ahhh! I don't suppose you have any idea how long it would take them to give me back an adult CIE id card when I give them the photo?

I get the impression it would take seconds.

Just for clarity,Polka dot, what is your chosen discipline or at what level are you studying ?

I've just started in Trinity in first year? An undergrad degree course ... I think that's what you're asking!

I sorted it out with the man in the train station in Balbriggan today. Everything is sorted for this week and he says to just get a student ticket for next month. :) Thanks everyone.

It is not OK until you have the correct ID for the ticket you hold.
