Recomendations for getting a porch added

We are looking to improve our house a little and add a porch door to the front. It will give us a little extra storage and stop us loosing so much heat out the front door. We already have the perfect structure outside our front door as It's really only going to require the step be built up and the doors added. Anyone have good recomendations for someone to do this type of work in south Dublin and anyone have rough ideas of what it would cost?

Are you aware that planning permission might be required

it sounds like the porch is in place, but is open.
If a door is fitted, and the step raised to internal floor level, is Planning required??

AFAIK If you are altering the face of a house in any way you need planning

This is one of those grey areas.

bets thing to do is to contact the council and talk to a planner.

You are allowed to construct a porch of 2 sqm or less without permission, however, if you already have an 'open' porch and you want to close it in, thats not specifically covered.
If its a house in a development of similar dwellings, the council may require you to apply for permission.
If you want to argue that it is exempt you can make a section 5 application.

some pointers from a similar OP
    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=74337530
If this is the only way for you to get for example a couch in, then consider
outwards opening double doors with two handles for symmetry (you can have one fixed) also if the budget will strech go with an Aluclad unit and look for a decent Uvalue say below 1.5w/m2k

In the same boat at the moment, getting some quotes and I'm been quoted around the Eur2,200 mark for a three foot wide side panel, and two 2 foot panels and a 6 foot sliding door at the front, building of a half step at the front and levelling and tiling inside.

    It's up to the council.

If it's less than 2sq.m then it s exempt, structure in place or not.

If its greater, then its not cover and strictly speaking it prob requires planning. A council might let it pass, but a section 5 is a good idea.
