    What planks are most suitable for some concrete shaping/pouring i.e garage base, footpaths ect ..........? cc30

    4X4 6X3 anything you have that is straight and has a bit of beef in it. even scaffold planks for somthing that is deeper than normal

    I used 9inch x 2 inch for my garage base. I got 'seconds' These are timbers that are not suitable for sale for carpentry work but are fine for shuttering. Mine were blackened abit and were cheaper as a result. Make sure they are straight though.

    You can strenghten the 9 x 3 with steel pins and by nailing them to concrete blocks but whoever is doing the foundation should know this and may even have their own planks.

    As for footpaths most people use 4 x 2s as your foot paths need four inches of concrete. I used 5 x 2 s and dug them an inch into the ground to give extra strenght. Concrete blocks and pins for strenght again.

    You mentioned shaping and if by this you mean putting curves on your foot path use smartply
