No to both. Just get it done yourself via a shop or with a gevey sim.

I bought mine from a Vodafone shop back in March & the T&Cs stated that they would not unlock my phone for (I think) 6 months. It might have been 12, I'm nowhere near my paperwork file right now

Ring them up and ask what details you'll need to give them to get it unlocked. If you do it the official way, rather than using the unofficial methods mentioned above, you won't have to worry about what effects future updates will have.

I think the registered owner(person you bought it from) needs to request the unlock code, or at least you need the phone number the phone was originally bought from.

Someone said above bring it to a shop to unlock, official unlocks can only be requested by the phones provider.
Of course a Gevey sim will work but they are far from reliable

edit: just to clear up, I'm saying don't take it to a phone repair shop to unlock aswell, try get it done officially

Don't ever bring it to a shop to unlock. They can only unlock it the same way you could do it yourself via a google search! And any unofficial unlock should just be done as a last resort, if it can't be done officially. Go the official route first, if it gets done that way, it's permanent. If you do it the unofficial way, you'll constantly have to be watching out for updates and will have to avoid them until a new jailbreak/unlock is released for the new iOS version. I've also read that the Gevey sim won't work with iOS 5, so you'll lose out on quite a lot of benefits if you can't get it officially unlocked. If you can't, save your money by doing the unlock yourself rather than paying a shop to do the exact same thing you'd be doing yourself.
