How can ye afford to run it for so cheap?

And how did ye get insurance and permission to have MMA fights there?

It's "compromise rules", not MMA. No head punches and such - same with most of the other college martial arts stuff. The big exception - boxing club - use gloves and helmets.

Wouldn't be much more expensive than running an Intervarsity competition, and the costs are offset by the fact that it is €2 entry and the event is being sponsored by several businesses.

I'd imagine insurance is still somewhat expensive, unless you're covered by the kingfisher insurance?

And they still wouldn't be covered for CMA if anything happened...

Not familiar with how it was organised, just going by what I've heard. What I am sure of is that if it wasn't covered by insurance it wouldn't be happening.

Literally the only good thing about MMA is the head kicks/punches. If I want to watch two sweaty men grope each other on the floor for hours I'll pay a monthly subscription.

Why not just stick with kickboxing then?
On the other hand if you actually educated yourself about the sport you'd realise the level of skill involved for ground work alone.

Calm down Van Damme, I never said there was no skill involved in ground/submission work, I just said it's boring to watch.

What would make you think that?

You're better off ignoring the people who even refuse to learn about what skill is involved, they never seem to change their opinions. I always have people asking me what the hell Im at when I do judo/grappling.

Do you carry this snobby attitude into real life? Just because someone thinks something is boring doesn't mean they mustn't understand it. Do you like NFL by any chance? I find NFL fans have the same attitude when you tell them their sport s a horrendous joke.

Evidently you don't understand MMA groundwork if you're best description of it is "men grope each other".Either that you're confusing the MMA that I watch with some of your other extra curricular activites, which we won't get into right now. However, assuming that it is indeed MMA that you're watching, maybe educate yourself about it and you may take a liking towards ground game in MMA.Failing that, stick with your Youtube highlight clips of "top 10 KOs".

Hang on, he doesn't have to understand the groundwork to know it's boring to watch. You lads seem to be honing in on the deemed insult, rather than acknowledging that MMA does have failures as a spectator sport.

If someone said to me that chess was boring to watch apart from when there's a time-scramble at the end, it would hardly be fair of me to blame the spectator and say they didn't understand it. Chess is boring to watch for many, many people, players included.

Excuse me but that is not my best description, it's just the one I chose to use.

Well I think the important thing is that a group of students organised a huge event, with a massively impressive setup and it all went without a problem
