Only just found out that Family Fortunes is coming to Ireland.

Will it do better or worse on these shores than DOND...? :D;)

Mind you, I much prefer Alan to Vernon Bl##dy Kay...

Well, this gaffe wasn't his fault... it was the fault of the people who conducted the survey.

They probably haven't watched Pointless... :D;)

Perhaps they got people in the survey to spell nee :) Or its the gaffe of the Production Staff. (No rehearsals? or production meetings or auto-cues where the word nee might continually be spelled incorrectly?)

Alan: Okay folks we are looking for things viewers of Ireland AM want to use to hit Mark Cagney? So Sandra things you might like to hit my co-host of Ireland AM with.
    Sandra: Nee?
Alan: Is knee there? our survey said

    Bing

Alan: What where's the K gone like in C..t? Not that I'd know.

To be fair, it was actually the fault of the numptys being surveyed who spell knee nee...

Cheap advertising. Following the Ryanair school of thought.

TV3 obv vetting the contestants to make sure they arent done for too much dough...

    The questions are rather dull.

    It's all very pedestrian.

It's the first show and I know it's not an original format but give it a chance. I hope it does well :)

Ah so that is where the K went in Nee.

Bet Xpose didn't come up as Things you Catch ? :)

Seen 5mins of it, it all seemed very Alan Partidgesque.

Dull & Tacky would be saying good things about it.

Xpose is not my flavour but the minute I head about Alan by god I had to tune in.

Sure I always spell my Knee without a K, sure it's only silet at the end of the day, not reall important!

He did an alright job last night, looked a little tense and it was a really fast game I must say. Looking forward to the rest of them, I'm sure they will get better over time :P

Was it anything like his days on Talkabout?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,641 ✭✭✭✭Elmo

I don't like this show at the best of times. Imagine if RTÉ had commissioned this and then put The Priest on as a family! uproar uproar I tell you.

I doubt they are using their own research. Minor point TBH. No spot prizes?

It should do well the UK version does well for the channel

it is awful to watch cringeworthy and they will strech it out for 25 shows

I still don't understand this, Family Fortunes is a really cringey, camp and kitsch TV format from the 1970s. Are other version not just as cringey?

    What did you expect?

However I like the US host anytime I see him on YouTube

So far I will admit it's not the best. It's sped up and it's like they are rushing it. I was in the audience and it wasn't what it's like on the TV. They really did cut the humorous parts of it out. Add them back in and it will become much better!

Overall it's still early days. I'll give it a chance as I want to see my family on it but if it keeps going the way it's going, this may be it's only season.

I saw a few minutes of this on saturday night, just to see if it really was the same family from Big Fat Gypsy Wedding and it was, with Ming Flanagans family . Watched 5 minutes, just so i could say i really had. It was even worse than i thought it might be . I dont usually agree with David Norris, but i think he has a point about current television output . Pure drivel of the lowest order. Having said that, TV3 must reckon they will get people to watch it, so , does it say more about the viewing public, or TV3?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 90,223 ✭✭✭✭JP Liz V1

I thought Alan seemed scared of Paddy Doherty and his family :p

    Can't stand anything he's in.

I think he was talking about Tallafornia (just try to spell check that ).

Yeah yeah look terrified IMO. Bring back Talkabout.

Yeah, I agree, surprised TV3 didn't suggest Martin King for that job, he is possibly the best suit to a Family Game Show. (Not that surprised really, I always felt Martin was underrate haha).

You can tell they aren't doing their own survey, what are people scared of Wolves and Bears!

It's now being billed as Alan Hughes' Irish Family Fortunes.

And I thought it was just the titles of documentaries that the folks at Ballymount messed around with...

You mean the third pilot in the Format Farm series - which, for anyone who still doesn't know about it, was basically Come Dine With Me with nights out instead of dinner parties?

    No surprise, really... ;)

This episode was repeated immediately before the X Factor - imaginitive scheduling by TV3.

If there is one good thing to say about it, it's that 327 must be one of the highest Big Money scores ever on any version of the show around the world, if not the highest...

The highest I've seen on the UK version is 312, while 311 was once achieved on Bert's Family Feud in Australia:

(As an aside, does that name at 2:16 look familiar? :D:D;);))

327 is a massive score. I think on most games it would be impossible to score so highly. You need the top two answers on each of the five questions to average 32.7 between them (and the two contestants to find all ten of the top answers). Usually the Big Money questions generate more varied answers than that.
