I have being looking into this breed a long time and I'm ready to bring one into our family home, IV done lots of research and I know it won't be easy but I just wondered does anyone in Waterford own one as I have not seeing any around I know their is plenty of American akitas but the Japanese is totally different and rarer I think. ? Any ideas as id love to get a look up close at one, thanks.

There was one up around the corner from my house. I don't know if the lady still has the dog though as her husband died and it was him that used to walk it.

The fecker attacked two dogs up around here that I know of.
Luckily they weren't hurt to badly.

Ye they are very dog aggressive if not socialised properly I have no plans on walking without a lead so hopefully I won't have that problem.

There is a small man who lives in my area that has the Japanese dog and it brings him for a walk, it's really funny to see. Beautiful dog, didn't look to go for my little Jack Russell, seemed to have a good temperment.

Any hints on the area so I can keep an eye out for the dog walking the man :) I may get some tips off him so I won't end up being the same.

Right when you are looking for a specific breed of dog the first place you look is the Akita Association of Ireland which you will get on the kennel club website. It's all well and good meeting billy barry murphy in waterford coz he may have the breed but is he passionate about the breed or did he just purchase his dog off donedeal. Talk to the experts and find out where is best to buy. I personally had to buy my own dog in the UK as I was advised on health reasons not to touch one from Ireland and all I wanted was a happy healthy pet ( and yes i know someone will come on here now and argue that all dg bloodlines between here and the UK are ****ty but anyway) it's the Uk Kennel club that actually recognise this dog as a breed so try here http://www.the-kennel-club.org.uk/services/public/acbr/Default.aspx?breed=Japanese+Akita+Inu.

IV being in touch with top breeders all ready and I'm in talks with one on a litter due this week, I had 3 telephone conversations the first was with maria the secretary of the akita association of Ireland plus another member who lives up the north, so IV done alot of research and I will not be buying a Akita inu off done deal :) I had just wondered was their anyone else in Waterford who had them as I had never came across one. Thanks for your reply .

Think that fella be up near me aswell walking his dog. (hillview area) little small chap with grey hair. I said hello to him one day and nearly died when he said hello back because he's so small but has a really really deep , big person voice haha. nice fella.

Hi..we had one a few years back..the chap we got her from was out in kilcohan...the dogs lineage came from one of the Aras's dogs....so i dont think the location of where you are buying the dog necessarily means there is anything wrong with the animal!! Anyway...the most adorable lovable animal ever and we still talk about and wish that we had been able to keep her..yes she was not very fond of other dogs...but we had 2 cats at the same time and she never went near them..also 2 kids and she adored them, all she wanted to do was play and be where we were...we had to part ways with her because we just did not have enough space or a house that was set up properly for her..she would NOT sleep outside and our house just was not big enough for her...but if you have the right set up i definitely would reccomend one!!
