    Hi all.

I will be made redundant soon. Have never claimed anything as have been in employment with 12 years. Will be going on jobseekers.

Plan is to do some courses between now and next Sept. and then go to college.

Had planned to go travelling (mostly outside EU) with my other half for three months next summer. If I go ahead as planned and then come back after the three months will I have problems getting back on jobseekers again? I know I won't be entitled to anything while away but am worried that I won't be able to get anything when I get back which would be a disaster. Would be disgusted if can't go ahead with plans as have waited a lonmg time and have saved towards it.

Okay from what you say it appears you are entitled to jobseekers benefit which lasts for 312 days or 12 months in fully unemployed. I am also presuming that the courses that you intend doing are night time. If they are daytime courses you are not entitled to claim jsb as you will not be looking for work. Lets assume the courses are night time ones... From the first day you are made redundant and claim jobseekers the 312 days start... its now almost October... presuming you are let go next week your jsb would last for 12 months...when you go away for three months next summer you can close your claim and you should still have some of the 312 days left to claim when you come back as the claims will be linked as it will be <6 months since your last claim. My worry would be that you may be entitled to back to education allowance and if you sign off for the 3 months over the summer you probably will not be entitled to it. I have posted a link to back to education below
