Noob: Satellite Setup

    Hi

I am trying to set up Freesat DIY. I have run into trouble and was wondering if anyone might be able to help?

I got a Technistar 4000 receiver from a friend looks like it was pre-programmed if you scroll through channels it has BBC UTV etc but I can get no signal.

I installed the dish with a quad LNB followed all the instructions from the supplier . Borrowed a Wolsey sat finder from an electrician at work found the Satellite: Sky 28e-v High and have 68 for SS and around 90 - 92 for PQ ran a cable directly to box but no joy.

So I am wondering is the Signal strength at 68 enough? Could not get it any higher for all my efforts. There is no documentation anywhere for the box and do not know its history so I am thinking this is the problem?

On the box there is an option to scan for Satellites I am assuming Astra2 is Astra2a? Thats a complete newbie assumption.

Any thoughts or pointers would be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers

If you have Astra 2 showing you are pretty much there,do a scan with the box as the pre programmed channels may have changed transponders thus giving you a no signal message.

There's some good tutorials on youtube which can be easier to follow than a written list of what to do.

Cheers Zerks, I will have a look for vids. The receiver is not showing signal Quality or strength, I have found some threads on here re the box and it sounds like it is not great. It is also showing "Over Current" on a red background not sure what that means?.... Maybe I should bite the bullet and get a more modern and known receiver!

"Over current" normally indicates a short circuit so re-check the f-connector fittings for stray wires e.g. the outer mesh in contact with inner core.

Thanks for that. Will do once it stops pissing rain. I have noticed that "Over Current" is displayed once the receiver is turned on without F-connectors plugged in!

For the sake of completeness it was the box in the end, bought a new one during the week and it worked straight of the bat. Thanks for the help.
