Moving applications to new Mac

    Hi All,
I've a new Mac laptop's arriving soon :)and I'd like to have it set up with the same applications that are on my desk machine (Mac). Is the best way just to install from original disks? Is there an easier way? I do not want to remove applications from my desktop but rather have them on the laptop as well. I gather there is a Migration Assistant but think it moves items from one Mac to the other only.

Any & all advice most welcome

    Regards

Use Migration Assistant. It doesn't remove data from the other Mac, it just copies it.

How did that work out for you? I have a macbook pro and want to get an imac and want the two to run with all the information I have on both at the same time. I have the macbook pro backed up with time machine as well.

Worked out fine. Used ethernet cable to connect and transferred all data and applications so one machine mirrors the other. I'll have to reinstall some plugins however. In Photoshop they do not work on new machine. Not sure if it's the operating system (old machine Snow Leopard/new one running Lion) that cannot see the plug ins. Going to reinstall soon and see what's up then.

Not sure if I should do this. I'm on a 2007 MBP and my replacement is on the way. I wish I didn't have to buy a new one, but this thing's just falling apart.

Migration Assistant might make things easier, but how well does it work, really?

All I can offer is my own experience and that's that Migration Assistant worked out fine for me - moved everything (copied should I say, from a 2007 Mac Pro-Snow Leopard). Except the problem with Nik plugins. Happy to relate that two of them are now working happily after downloading again from Nik site, but one still not happy to play. Have an email gone off to them for advice.

    Regards
