I have a classic army m4 and am having awful trouble with mags. So far nothing I've tried will work. I was wondering if a Hk-16 body fit my m4 as I heard they take mags a bit better.

    Thanks in advance.

In all likelihood a HK416 body would give you more trouble as the dimensions/shape of the magwell differ from typical M4/M16 magwells.

What mags have you tried in your M4? What issues are you having - do they not lock in properly and/or are you having feed issues?

mags i found that have worked with my CA m4 are MAG mid caps, lonex mags, CA hi caps, Pmags
have a couple king arms mid caps but to me they just dont feed.
if none of these work then maybe if you took your gun apart something might not be sitting right when it was re-assembled??

I've tried king arms, ICS, and I find that only REAL magpul pmags work. As we all in these times 30 euro -per mag is a bit much in this economic climate.
The problem is that the magazine catch is griping the mags to low so there not getting the hole way up into the hop-up chamber. I get one round off then I've to hold the mag into the chamber.

Hey I've tried the pmags their good but a bit on the expensive side. I've had the same problem with the king arms ones. I haven't taken the gun apart in any shape or form.

Are you adversed to modifying mags to fit and feed in your rifle? If not, then you'll be sorted:

1.) Line up the desired mag (the ones you already own and do not work) with the mag that came with your gun (you can also use a different one that works, but for best results use the one packaged)

2.) Observe and note any dimensional differences between the two magazines

3.) Remove as many of the differences as you can (e.g. if you notice that the King Arms mags are a little thinner than the stock mag, then buff it out with electrical tape + cardboard. If you need it thinner, then file it.

    4.) Load & Test mag.

    5.) Success? If no, continue.

6.) Realign magazines up, and take closer note of any differences. If your mag feels too tight going into the magwell, you could do with filing a little off of it. If it goes in very easy, and doesn't feed, then hold the mag up with your hand, and see if it feeds then. If it does, it needs to be buffed out more.

Have you a way to make them sit higher in the mag well ?

Buffing it out tends to do this job. Basically there's not enough friction holding the mag in its proper place in the magwell. It's the very back of the mag, the thin part, that needs to be buffed out. A single strip of card + strip of electrical tape tends to fix this problem very easily.

On the off chance that the mag is sitting very low, you could modify where it's caught by the magazine catch - you'd have to move where it catches further down the mag by gluing a piece of something rigid in the hole, right at the top. This narrows the hole...depending on how much is needed, you may need to make it larger by filing it out at the bottom.

HOWEVER...I have never heard of this needing to be done; the other solution has always done the trick
