    Hi,
My laptop runs on vista and at the moment every time I start up it suddenly gives me the error message "Failed to connect to a Windows service: Could not connect to System Event Notification Service."

Since this started I am unable to log on to the internet using my laptop and also it has become noticeably longer for it to boot up.

Has anybody else had this problem and would they be able to help me out?

Also this is not the first time I've had this problem. I found a solution online but it's not working the second time round. http://www.techmalaya.com/2009/01/26/fix-could-not-connect-to-the-system-event-notification-service-error-windows-vista/

Any help would be much appreciated, thanks

    Try this:

Click Start and type in services.msc hit enter.

    In the list find the:

    System Event Notification Service

Right Click it and select Stop (if already stopped then just skip on to start)
Then Right Click and Select Start

Then Right Click select properties and make sure that Startup Type is set to automatic.

    Reboot.

the start and stop commands were faded on the right click menu i'm afraid. so that didn't work.
however i did restore the computer to a restore point and that appears to have fixed the problem.

    thanks anyway

I had to fix a laptop which was similar sympthoms to this, i ended up reinstalling the OS, did you shut down the OS while it was updating? It was Vista I saw this happen on, and the OS just seems "broken"
