iTunes 10.4.1 won't open in Lion

I recently installed Lion on my MacBook and can't open iTunes. I get an error message saying 'cannot be opened because of a problem'.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes and set up a new administrator a/c (I read on one forum that this may help), but still can't open it.

    Any ideas?

I have the same issue with my Lion :( ... does iTunes Helper have anything to do with it?

I deleted the iTunes Helper but still can't open it. I also tried installing an earlier version of iTunes but that didn't work either.

Just as well I installed Lion on a partition and didn't delete Snow Leopard

I'm sure there's a solution, I just find it odd that I can't google any other forums from ppl who've had similar issues from upgrading to Lion

Did you migrate data (applications, user account, etc) from your previous SL installation?

no.... Didn't think I needed to. I just installed Lion and let it do it's thing...

Okay, so you upgraded from SL then yeah? i.e. you didn't do a clean install?

Comrade Zed, since you said you have Lion installed on a separate partition, you obviously did a clean install. But did you migrate your applications/user account from your SL partition?

Also, aby, are you getting the same error as Zed - "iTunes cannot be opened because a of a problem"?

yes I previously had snow... I think... It was OS 10.5 previously. I guess I didn't do a clean install... First time I upgraded mac os software. And yes, I'm getting the same error

I didn't.. I've just reinstalled Lion and migrated my applications/user account from SL and still get the same error message.

The problem was obviously migrated over. You can either go rooting around in your library folders for the problem (by deleting iTunes preference files, etc), or do a clean install and manually copy your user data over. This is what I ended up having to do to sort out my Lion problems.

When I installed Lion initially, I didn't migrate any applications etc. I set up a new user a/c on the partition.. this is when I first got the error message.

I only migrated after reading your post as I thought this might solve the problem. Unfortunately, it didn't..

^ This is your problem. You are running the developer preview of Lion. Did you buy Lion from the Mac App Store?

I borrowed a colleague's copy as I wanted to test and see how everything was before buying from the App Store.

    thanks for your help
