Lag fix need on S2

Bought a couple of sim free S2's out here in Bangkok from in a Samsung shop. One for me and one for herself. Beasts of things in fairness. Loving the switch from apple!

However, the g.f noticed today that there was a good bit of lag on her's, when either surfing the net or typing out sms's of facebook messages. When on the net, it would sometimes just freeze for maybe 10 seconds or longer. Which ends up in her just pressing the home button to unfreeze it.

The lag basically comes and goes every so often. Herself started freaking and since I'm new to android...I'm at abit of a loss as well as to what to fix it.

We are using stock everything on the device at the moment, until we get used to the OS.

Can anyone shed some light on what may be the problem?

My S2 is working fine. I take it a bit of lag like this is not uncommon?

Do you have many apps installed? Maybe one of them causes a problem? Try to reset the phone to factory settings...

She has only 5/6 basic apps installed, like facebook, tango etc. Nothing more than that.

Would a factory reset solve the problem though?

I don't know but at least there will be one possibility checked...did you try to update a system via kies? Maybe there is a new os available.

Kies is a Samsung soft for phone updates...you must update these phones I would say. Download it from Samsung web and connect your phones...kies is something like itunes for iPhone...

i did a hard reset and also a factory reset and the lag has disappeared, however the dock software buttons have become very unresponsive... especially the menu/ applications button on the bottom right.

    Kinda annoying.

Her phone build number is gingerbread. dxk12 (I updated from kies... and after reset it still remained at the updated version)

    Its running android 2.3.3

Can anyone suggest its solution to this problem?

Edit: seems the lag is back again full force FFS : (

    That's pretty up to date.

A rogue app does not necessarily have to be one she installed.
How much RAM is in use/free usually?
I'm sure there is an app somewhere that will tell you what apps are using your processor (which would be more relevant) and might identify the problem.

in her task manager the used Ram = 238mb/837mb and thats straight out of the box after doing a factory/hard reset.

So frustrating in fairness, and no one seems to have a fix.

why not bring it back to the shop at the start?
if you bought 2 of them and 1 is fine and the other
is a bit dodge.it kinda makes sense to do that.no?
not trying to be a prick but trying to get a replacement
    would solve your problem.

i would have done that but we are 500 miles away from where we bought it. wont be going back there either.

Do you both have SD cards? What if you try your SD card in her phone, does that fix the lag? If so then perhaps the SD card is at fault. Maybe a Windows fix or format might be required in that case.

Anyhow, just something else to consider.

she has no sd card in hers, ive a 32gb one in mine since yesterday. ive never had any issue with my phone though.

just noticed that sometimes the lag is completely gone then comes back fully out of no where.

You could root it and give a custom rom a try? See if that sorts anything out?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,048 ✭✭✭biebiebie

Hmm, perhaps there might be a physical fault with the phone? Rooting might not be the best option. What if you try contact Samsung support locally there and seek advice? They might ask you to drop into a local store to have it checked or even replaced. The sooner you do this the better IMHO.
