Watch a channel while recording another

    Hello,

I got a new Sky + Box installed today, and when I am recording a program and try to switch to a different channel I get a message saying 'No Satellite signal is being received'.

from a little bit of research It appears that you need two satellite feeds to the box, although I only have one wire coming from the wall? is it possible to split this feed so two channels can be in use co-currently?

    thank you

Who installed the box? It's not '+' anything if there's only one feed from the dish!

yup you NEED 2 connections from the dish to the box.

    you can't split it.

if installed correctly, you can record 2 separate channels while watching a previously recorded program.

Get the installer back to do the job properly,he was meant to run 2 cables to the box,if he could run 1 then there's no reason why he couldn't run the second one.

basically, I moved to this house and there was only one connection, in the other room there is two feeds running to the box.

I moved my old sky box to this new house and there was a hard drive failure so it was replaced today. In the room it's in there is only one feed - is it a big job for sky to run a second and will they do it If I call them back?

As there are 2 cables in another room, thats really where the box should go. Whatever you do, DO NOT get $ky back to put in a cable. They will charge you an arm & a leg. Its a simple task to run a cable from the lnb to the box. Should cost no more than 12 - 15 Euros for the materials. If you are not up to it yourself, then ask a friend/colleague/acquaintance/family to have a go. You are looking at a €100 call-out fee from $ky(my deliberate mis-type).

If the installer put the box into the room with only one cable which from the gist of the op's post seems to have happened then the op is well within his rights to demand the installer come back and sort it for free.

If the op moved the box himself then he should do as you say and run the second cable himself.

Agreed, but if the installer signed off on that as a standard installation, then $ky are likely to impose charges.

basically, the repair guy was called upon to fix the box - I hadn't realised up until now that there was only one cable in the room because I haven't tried to use sky+ in this house yet.

in the other room, there is two black cables running out of the wall side by side and also a wall port for an aerial connection

in the room where I want sky + there is only one black cable running out of the wall, but there is also a wall port for an aerial connection - is there a chance that this wall port could be serving the other connection or should it be running side by side like the setup in the other room?

Does the wallplate have an f-connection like this one? If not, it's no use for satellite.

If you can see your dish, how many cables are connected to the lnb?

It's not a f-connection, it's one of the older dish ones I think.

There's 3 wires connected to the LNB from what I can see, so I rang sky - threatened to cancel again (how I got the box fixed for nothing) and they seemed very happy until the very last step of cancellation when I got a 'wait, would you be interested in staying if we sent out a free engineer'

    thanks for the help lads
