I went out yesterday evening here in Kerry as the evening was good.I headed to some new ground surrounded by forestry and set myself up in an area where i knew deer where crossing. After five mins or so a sika stag started to roar in the wood about four hundred meters away as you can image my heart started to beat faster!!! After a few mins a seven pointer sika popped out from the edge of the forestry as i looked thru my binos. He stood there sniffing the air and walking carefully along the edge of the forest but the problem was that he was on the other side of a sheep wire fence so a shot was out of the question .As i lay there and an army of midges eating the head off me and not trying to move as to let the stag know i was there and waiting for him to jump the fence!!
I watched him for twenty mins or so eventually he jumped over but the cover was long and i kept loosing him all i could see was the antlers now and again and wondering had he fecked off then he appeared again all i could see was his neck and head i was in a perfect lying position so i lined him up for a neck shot with the 243 at 150meters pulled the trigger and down he came!! As i walked up to see him he lay there a beautiful kerry sika these evenings are really worth it, when u have patience it pays off!! We are blessed in Kerry all thou we didn,t bring home Sam!!!
