Just wondering if anyone has used this service. I like that it's small and not connected to a hospital...location is handy too. Initial appointment is €250 including sperm count for him, pelvic exam, ultrasound and blood tests for her. Does that sound like ok pricing?

    Hi,

We used Femplus but the €250 don't include the SA. Probably my reply is too late at this stage for you, but the doc is very approachable and answered all our questions. The only problem is that it gave me the impression to be a money racket as after our bad SA she only wrote to us and told us that we may want to see her again for further investigation.

It's probably best to consult a GP first and then do what they suggest.

Thanks for the reply...for a variety of reasons we have not progressed investigations anywhere. GP receptionist said Syms or Rotunda but Femplus would be handier. To be honest there seems to be a feel of money making off all the private places I have researched. It's all so confusing.

I know, it's a bit of a mess and it is very expensive to do all the required tests. I am going to see a GP next week (I don't have one at the moment since we moved home recently) and see what he suggests. I will keep you posted.

    Hi Athtrasna,

The GP was supportive and really approachable, no matter how this fertility issue goes I think I have found my GP in Dublin!! He has referred us for an ultrasound scan as my hubbie had 2 bad consecutive Semen Analysis tests. If this comes back normal, he has advised us to relax  and try for another year before going down the fertility clinic route. However, the relax bit is very controversial (many specialists say it's rubbish and there is no scientific proof that relaxation brings baby!) and I am not so sure at this stage we can really relax about this stuff. He told us that if we want to do any further investigations, he will refer us to a fertility clinic in Dublin where they will do all the check ups and then evaluate what to do.

So, I'd say go to your GP and explain your situation. He'll probably do some initial blood tests and semen analysis and you can take it from there. Depending on your and your partner ages and on how long you have been trying to have a baby, he might refer you to a fertility clinic straight away.

In the meantime you can also try to chart the menstrual cycle through the measuring of the body basal temperature. It's a great method to observe the menstrual cycle and find out whether the woman is ovulating and can also help to time intercourse a bit better.

Good luck to you and baby dust to both of us!!!

I know this is an old thread but I am still reeling from a bad experience at Femplus and have just written a review on Google to reflect this:

I made an appointment for a scan after experiencing abdominal pains and infertility to see if they were linked. I paid €200 for a 10 minute consultation and scan to be told I had no developing eggs, a thin uterine lining, was not ovulating and basically to go home and lose weight. This was all relayed in a very cold and condescending manner and needless to say I returned home very upset. I paid a further €25 to come back in for 21 day Progesterone blood test. A nurse called with results confirming that in fact I had 100% ovulated despite what I had been told. 4 months later a public scan at Vincent's revealed I had a 6mm subendometrial cyst. I also had visible follicles and a corpus luteum - again I had ovulated. Luckily I found out 2 weeks ago I had fallen pregnant naturally. The lead gynaecologist had most worryingly of all missed the cyst and I felt she had been extremely unhelpful, arrogant and rude with a very bad attitude to a patient with a higher BMI than she cared to treat. I definitely would not recommend this particular gynaecologist (the nurse who did blood test and called with results was lovely though).

Since then, and before I discovered I was finally pregnant, my GP recommended a Dr Kent Ayers in Dundrum for fertility. I never had to go to my appointment in the end but I have heard lots of good things about him.

My goodness i so identify with you. Patronising, condescending and arrogant are the words i have for that dr.
I too was told in a very sharp way after spending a fortune that i couldnt take fertility drugs because i was overweight.
when i came back having lost the 2 stone and with some info i had researched about possible drugs. She told me "no, but you are very welcome to attend another clinic".
    Horribly humiliating experience.
    Huge congrsts on your pregnancy!!
