    Hi All,

I am thinking of taking a year out from my club next year, as we have our second child coming this week and i'll struggle to get up enough.
Will my handicap lapse during this year?
    Thanks

Strictly speaking yes, in reality no.

Strictly speaking yes. In reality, yes also. Handicaps lapse on the lapse of membership.

No. You can regain a handicap as soon as you rejoin a club, even within six months.

You official handicap ceases to be an official handicap as soon as your membership ends.
However, you can re-activate an 'old' handicap once you join (re-join same club or join a new affiliated club) within 6 months.

Just saying 6 months can lead to ambiguity - it doesn't mean that your 2011 membership ends on 31 December 2011 and you can still work away until June 30th 2012. As I said, it means that if you decide to re-join within that 6 month period, your old handicap can be restored. After this period you're supposed to hand in 3 cards etc to get a new handicap (though it may be the case that you get the same one again).

Your club may have some arrangement that allows you to maintain your handicap without playing rights so maybe ask them first?
