    Ladies/Gents,

My daughters notebook was working perfectly up to yesterday. As of today, even with the power chord plugged in, if you press the on button, it flashes the blue lights, shows a brief glimpse of DELL logo and about 1cm of the loading bar and all gone and shut down again with 2 seconds.

What can I do? Any recommendations gratefully received.

Try entering BIOS or Boot Menu and tell us what's happening. If you can enter Boot Menu and the laptop won't restart then it should be Windows issue but if you won't be able to even enter the Boot Menu because computer shuts down itself than it is probably a hardware related issue.

Sounds more like a hardware problem - was it dropped or did it get a bit of a knock? I would suggest you re-seat the RAM. If that doesn't work it's probably a hard disk problem - try re-seating it but more than likely it will need to be replaced. You may be able to recover the data on it using a hard drive dock.

Oooh that's not sounding too good at all.

It's gone back into the school again now. I took the battery out of it and left it plugged in and it booted up. Once I put the battery back in - it died again.

will see what the school tech says now :(

I would say that it's a good news actually. It seems to be a battery problem so probably it can be fixed by simply replacing the battery.
