Its really driving me mad tbh. Every minute of two, firefox is freezing and reading "not responding" in the top bar. Iv un-installed firefox 6 and reinstalled windows 7 beta but still having the same trouble. What could be wrong? :(

The extensions im using are Adblock plus and British English Dictionary

    And my plug ins

I'd start by disabling all plugins and extensions and trying it. Then enable each extension/plugin one by one and trying it each time.

It could be something wrong with your profile, try reverting all to default (note this will remove your favourites etc so make sure you back them up), this will reset firefox to "factory defaults". Just tick all 5 boxes and choose "make changes and restart", instructions here

I was actually gonna post something similar.. Firefox ties up every few minutes... I'm in the process of just abandoning it for Google Chrome, but I would be interested to see which plugin is causing the problem..

Did you reset your profile, if the places is corrupt it probably would cause problems with firefox, thats the database your history is stored in, worth a shot anyways :)

If you want to change use either Chromium or SRIron. Based on Chrome and not spyware

Same problem here - looks like firefox is the new IE6 in terms of bloat and hogging memory.

Checking out SR Iron - how do you think it compares to opera?

Did you reset the profile? This may be a profile problem-not extensions related

Better than Opera, as it supports Google Chromes extensions engine, still not mad keen on Chrome though, personal opinions and all that, try wipe the firefox profile, see how it goes, instructions in my above post, fwiw Chrome becomes a memory hog with extensions also, just a tradeoff for the benefits

The places.sqlite being corrupt is not a good sign, what I would do is go to run (On XP Start>Run/Vista/7 Windows key & R) and type %appdata%>Mozilla>Firefox>Profiles>randomstring.default, open this folder up (make sure ff is fully closed) and delete its contents, go back in and start fresh, certainly freezing like that on a new profile isn't "normal". I don't use mozbackup to backup my profile, I do it manually always so have no expierience with the tool, if you copy this .default folder to your desktop, youve made a backup!
