    ...on AWX engine.
    The temp gauge wasnt moving above 1/4 way so i though it may have been the temp sender. Put in a new one and still the same. Should the gauge reach up to halfway (90deg) and would the thermo be stuck open or is this the 'natural' position.

    It should point at 90 I believe. You done the right thing in replacing the sender, that usually fixes it. Any chance there is something dodgy in the wiring to the sender? Spray a bit of wd40 on the connecter and pins .

    When did you notice this, been going on long? As far as I know the impeller is the other thing that goes on these, but replacing the thermo stat would be a lot easier. Suppose it would be an ideal time to check your coolant for winter :-)

    Sounds like it could be a dodgy thermostat. If you're not getting warm air through the heater when the weather gets colder, that will confirm it.

    @teadrinker
    Got stuck in a bit of traffic yest eve and the temp rose to approx midway but once I was back moving it dropped back down again.
    I only have the car 10days so god knows how long it has been happening.

    @ksimpson
    since I had the car havent really needed the setting above 18c but yest when driving the outside temp reached 23 so brought the temp down to low and really didnt feel the cold air but that could be unrelated
    Will change the thermo in the next week and put in fresh anti-freeze/coolant as will prob end up losing a load of it while changing the thermo as it looks a bit awkward

    Def the thermostat - had the same problem myself - guage goes a quarter of the way up. Changed the thermostat and now goes halfway and sits there. Very easy job - 1hr max

    Mine has been doing the same for ages, just noticed now that it won't any further than just after the 50c mark.

    Thermostat aswell??
