Used books websites?

I wasn't sure where to put this but hopefully this section is okay.

I am looking to buy some books but would rather buy used/second hand. I have looked at amazon and the price of a used book ends up not too different than a brand new copy after postage is added on.

Are there any reliable websites to buy used books from, who don't charge massive shipping fees to Ireland? And accept paypal or visa.. thank you in advance.

www.abebooks.com or www.abebooks.co.uk springs to mind.

I’m a fan of www.thebookdepository.com or www.thebookdepository.co.uk for new books with free delivery, which may work out better value for money than second hand book websites that charge delivery. You can search a book on both links and simply pick the cheapest of the two (To the best of my knowledge, the book will come from England in both instances). Keep an eye out for (or google) 10% discount codes, which someone usually posts on the Bargain Alerts forum.

    Hope this helps.

    http://www.betterworldbooks.com/

    and

    http://www.betterworldbooks.co.uk/

    free delivery for both

    Enjoy,
    Magic.

PS. I ordered books from them and books were in a good condition, I think the condition it's specified on the website, most of the books would be ex-library books.

I've used betterworldbooks / the book depository before - they were quite good.

On Play - there is an option under some books for a selection of second hand books. Postage is included in the price, and I've gotten books through play that were 'thebookdepository' as the person/business selling them.

I think it's pretty decent, got a bunch of books from 2.50-5 euro all second hand, through play and there's no postage charge. Obviously depends on what books you're looking for, not all will be available and the other sites mentioned might be better. But just an option :)

I have recently started using http://www.awesomebooks.com

They sell used and new and delivery is free to anywhere in Europe/US/Canada/Aus/NZ as long as you buy more than 1 item per order.

They also do discount codes occasionally like 10 or 15%off. I have used them 4 times now and it takes roughly a week to 10 days so as long as you're not in a hurry it's quite a good service. The second hand books are around €2.50-€2.80.

I had a problem with my first order, which was an address error and they sorted it out and refunded my card pretty quickly. But since then I've had no problems. Books are in reasonable condition too.

Just to follow up, I ordered from awesomebooks in the end. Ordered Wednesday, they were dispatched Friday so I should have them soon. Plenty of cheap books and they had a 4 for 3 offer too :) thanks everyone.

I have found BetterWorldBooks.co.uk to be very good. I was looking for a rare low interest book that was €20 delivered at the Book Depository. I found a very good second hand one for less than €10 delivered at BetterWorldBooks. It was dispatched within 24 hours of ordering and I received it 2 to 3 days later. (unlike the Book Depository which now appears to be taking up to 2 weeks to deliver).

People should use price comparison sites in addition to individual websites.
www.bookfinder.com is one example that incorporates shipping.
