Cost of a new aerial

Was in my local Tesco's today, and they had the a small booklet from Saorview, with all the usual instructions on what it is, how to receive it... etc.
However, it recommended that you contact your local approved aerial installer, and prices are 160 euros (approx) to install an aerial. Can it be really this price ?
Seems a tad expensive to me

There are no 'Saorview approved' installers, they only recommend the 3 trade bodies mentioned on their site in the absence of any real regulation of aerial installers.

Just contact local installers, 'approved' or otherwise, for a quote & apply the usual rules when looking for tradesmen, such as references from people you know.

A €8.99 uhf aerial from argos did the job for me, and I couldn't receive anything prior.

OP, are you currently receiving TV through an aerial? If so, can you tell us is it a rooftop aerial and which part of the country are you in - the town will do?

My local guy installed a UHF aerial for Maghera & replaced a single LNB with a quad unit & also ran the required extra cables for €145 - only prob - on the day he did the job Mulla (normally poor) was stronger than Maghera due to atmospheric conditions. I had to get my son on the roof to re-direct to Maghera when Mulla fizzled out after a couple of days!

Have Sky at the moment, no aerial. (Cashel, Co.Tipperary)
Many thanks for your suggestions. Will have a look at the free paper for the ads, and make a few calls. Will update here with the prices....
    Thanks

No need for everyone to go rushing out to buy new aerials, your existing UHF aerial (if you have one) will do the job perfectly.

There's some over zealousness being made about this "digital" hype, don't be sucker punched into forking out for something you may already have.

That seems to be happening sadly . If you can receive TV3 on your existing aerial then you most likely do not have to replace it.

I posted a scan from a newspaper a few months ago which had carried out a survey of some installers regrading their prices relating to Saorview.

You could try installing it yourself if yourself, kits and aerials are available online.

Kilduff transmitter is recommended for Cashel, Group C/D aerial.

Thought some of you guys might like to see the advantages of Saorview over the old analogue VHF from Maghera. Piont to note, according to the Soarview coverage checker, I am not covered by any transmitter for DTT.
