Noob question for Garageband Plugins

Recently moved to a mac, and firstly, I'm not too sure if I can import plugins to garageband?

I downloaded "ambience full os x vst" but can't seem to get it to appear when I try to enable a plug in in garageband.

I think I may be storing it in the wrong folder.

I am not 100% sure if I should be storing it in application support>garageband>instrument library or audio>plug ins>vst

I don't seem to be able to get it to work trying either option.

VST format plugins are not compatible with Garageband. You need AU format plugins. Lucky for you, Smartelectronix Ambience is also available as AU.

I'm fairly sure you don't need to know what folder it goes in, the installer does that for you. But as you're in there, did you notice different folders for "VST plugins", "MAS", etc? Maybe you were misled by the fact that Apple call the AU folder "Component".

Cool, I downloaded the AU of ambience, but I think I may be out of luck, as there doesn't seem to be an option for PowerPC

I put it into the components folder, but when I go into garageband and look through the au plugins, it doesn't seem to be there. I guess it's not compatible with PowerPC. I'm looking around for some reverb plugins I could use with garageband.......

That's odd, because he states they're universal.

What's wrong with the bundled reverb?

ah nothing wrong with it, I just read that the ambience one was quite good compared to the bundled one, so thought I would try it......
