Can Astra 19.2°E be used to watch F1?

A few months ago the BBC announced that F1 was been half sold to Sky Sports. This is a disaster as far as I’m concerned as I have no interest in Football, Golf, Boxing, or any of the other sports on Sky. Meaning I would have to pay a yearly subscription for 2 two hours, every other Sunday, for about 9 months of the year.

I’ve been looking at setting up a Dish off and on for a couple of years, but if its able to pick up RTL, or one of the Spanish Channels, that show F1, then I’d be hooked up within the next few weeks!

So I was wondering if someone would be able to confirm that it is a possibility to watch F1 with an Astra 19.2°E connection?

You can watch RTL FTA. Practice is shown FTA on Sport 1 also.

Is it really being shown on sky? When will this start?

Ye it looks like Sky will be showing all the races and BBC will only be showing half the races live. BBC radio will have full live coverage.

Which is where my plan, at the moment, is coming from. Pick up the German signal off the dish and tune into 5live for the commentary. Which is better than sitting around waiting for a 1/2 hour highlights show from the BBC!

The radio commentary is often 4 or 5 seconds ahead of the satellite feed.

So you may have to work this out.

I play radio 5live on the freesat hrd, I pause it for a couple of seconds and then play it on the surround sound. I would watch RTL Formula 1 on another reciever on the tv monitor.
Its very easy to do if you have a HDR reciever. Sometimes when watching GAA I would listen to radio coverage in the same manner.
I also did this for the tennis final in New York pictures from German Eurosport and commentary from BBC 5live.

Other board members may be able to give better ways on getting around the time difference.

5 Live online seems to sync perfectly with the RTL SD feed.
