As I mentioned in the espresso beans thread - I ordered a VST basket from Square Mile a few days back. It arrived this morning.

My set-up is a PID'ed Silvia, naked portafilter, and original double basket. Been weighing 19g into grinder (Iberital MC2, doserless). Pre-infusion and 25 sec shots.

I didn't change the grind on the beans at all, and didn't change my leveling/tamping routine at all.

Noticable improvement on the quality of the shots - anal observation of the underside of the basket during shot shows a much more even extraction at play. Shots taste better.

I was so impressed I bought the company. Well, not really, but it does seem to be the case that it's one of those bits that actually do something positive, and justify the silly outlay of 30 smackers for a little piece of aluminium.
