I have just been told that to get a grant for my post grad course my parents means will be assessed, they are slightly over the threshold so I won't get it. I'm in my late 20s and have lived away from my parents without support for years but because I registered as a first year undergraduate as living with parents I have to wait for 3 years after my graduation to be considered independant. I found this out after I registered and I really want to do the course but I don't have a spare 5.5k.

Does anyone know of any help available in UCC for people in this situation?

The student assistance fund might be able to give you a small amount

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

Thanks, I'll give them a go. I'll try to meet with the welfare officer about it.
