Hey lads, we did another show last night and covered the following:

    France v New Zealand
Ireland’s win over Australia and Ireland V Russia
    New Zealand team picked
    The Samoa Centre's twitter rant.

Would love to get more Boards members involved as the 2 lads are great. Let us know what you think about the show.

Free pint for someone who can count how many times I say "ya know" or "you know". :o

We'd love to read your comments/thoughts lads. Be as critical as ye like! :D

At one stage you said you know so much you lost your train of thought, so in backup you just repeated "You Know" 3 or 4 times in a row:D:p;)

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh I can't slag, I alway say I won't start my comments with it but as always I go Ahhhhhhhhhhhh as soon as I open my mouth:D Anyone else thinks Dave sounds like Joe Duffy?? should get him to respond to all our comments with "How did that make you feel"

Seriously, it would be great to get a few more Boardies on the show, we are onto epsidode 7 and I ran out of bluff about 5 minutes into episode 1:p

Alan reminds me of Frankie Sheehan biggrin.gif
And I counted eleventy hundred "ya knows". pacman.gif

I dont really have anything bad to say about this. Twas pretty interesting and held my attention well, good radio voices too. Would be cool to have more people on it to get maybe a few more perspectives on things. I'm not volunteering by the way I'm not cut out for showbiz.

Also might be cool to have a live discussion where people can comment as you guys go through the topics and Dave could pull out any interesting points made during the show. Even if people dont want to be part of the show they can still be involved that way and it would open it up to more people might gather more steam that way.

Edit : Just like to add too that an hour is a bit long for a podcast I think.

We record the podcast through skype so I dunno if we could stream it live, I'm not an expert at all. Good idea though. We want this to be a fans' podcast rather than your typical pundits' podcast so any way we can include the many Joe Soaps out there would be great.

Yeah we agree on this too, it's just a case of we have so much to talk about at the moment. While we obviously prioritise Ireland we want to cover all bases and it's hard to do that in under 30 minutes IMO. Main reason I posted the running order is so people can skip parts that might not interest them. Personally I think 40 minutes should be the maximum length for the show.

We're hoping to have the show up on iTunes soon, so it will be easier for listeners to subscribe and/or download.

    Oh lord...

Was it you reprimanded me for saying "legend" instead of "ligind", I can't remember!

and on that note - John Hayes, ligind.

Is that knobber "Alan" on espisode 6 as well?

He really grates me with his common sense, acurate predictions of lineups and results not to mention he's decent understanding of the different coaches mentalities !!!

Not once has he mentioned that Tommy Bowe is too slow for a winger, Marcus Horan's arse is too small for a prop or that Sean O Brien should move to hooker :mad::mad:

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,207 ✭✭✭durkadurka

Yeah his use of 'facts' and 'reason' is pretty egregious

Don't know, but maybe for shameless bumps! :D

Keep the comments coming lads, it's great to get feedback.

Just listened to it now, very good, some serious background on parra there at 10 for bourgoin!

Keep at it lads. Every bit as good as the 'pros' and a noticeable absence of bombast.

An hour is a stretch though in fairness.

Only if you report it yourself :)

Was a good listen, a breath of fresh air compared to some professional punditry

Would posting/dividing the show into two parts work do you think?

i.e. Part 1 on Ireland, Part 2 on Rest of the World?

I think that would be better, also might be cool to add a section about boards if thats possible and just go through the popular threads and talk about what people are saying. People will be more inclined to keep tuning in I think if theres a chance you discuss a point they have raised/agree with or they might feel a little more involved if the discussion is seen as an extension of whats happening here by you guys referencing interesting points.

    Part 1 - Ireland.
Part 2 - Rest of the world/General rugby talk
Part 3 - What people are saying online

    20 minutes on each perhaps.

I probably sound like a broken record in trying to get ya to reference points/people on boards but I think that the key to success of things like this are based on interaction with the listeners. And as a live discussion with listener feedback might be too complicated or too much bother then involving people this way might be just as good. Worked for Vincent Browne !

Bolded bit = That's definitely in the pipeline. We want to keep links with the boards forum as well as our own site, SpearTackle. Myself and Phonehead will be able to slate our enemies. :pac:

Yeah, I like the referencing point. It could give us ideas for discussion while giving credit/kudos to a user.

    Love the Boards interaction ideas.

Maybe a My Johnny is bigger than your Ronan section - where we discuss what has been the most dividing debate on Boards for the week! we could pick out those posts from the thread which really show each side of the debate - based on comment likes:confused: (obviously credit the poster and maybe run a league table to see over a period which poster is the true king of the rugby forum):D:D

Maybe have a what made you laugh on Boards during the week.

Just starting to listen now. Just on that comment, please don't use "likes" as a measure of talking points i.e. "ROG/Sexton is muck" nearly always gets several thanks due to people floating in. You're all very incisive and intelligent blokes, some of the posts that get thanked the most are thanked on the basis of an agenda. You're all even handed, go on what you think is an interesting point. Your talking points will far outstrip the other comments made here.

Will fire back any other thoughts I have if I can remember after this bottle of wine. ;)

I suppose what we are looking out for is an interesting angle on a topic and then we can give our 2c.

We don't want to fall into the trap of just montonously previewing/reviewing a game, like on this forum there is other interesting stuff that can be discussed.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,433 ✭✭✭✭thomond2006

I think I'll have to adopt a Neil Francis stance on Lievremont for the next show! I was quite kind to him!

We've broken 100 plays already (record is first show at 202 plays/downloads), thanks for listening! If you want to help spread the word about our humble production, please repost the link on facebook, twitter etc. We're finding it difficult to advertise the show.

Bumping this to see if anyone has suggestions for a discussion topic for the next podcast, probably will be recorded this week. Anything outside of the box would be particularly cool. We'll try to have a discussion on what the forum is talking about too.

What about a setpiece ROG vs sexton death match?

Maybe you could have a live audience baying for blood.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,915 ✭✭✭MungBean

    George Hook/Rugby commentators/panels who's the best/whos the worst.

Tony Buckley, is he as bad as everyone says? What do the coaches see in him.

Bets of the week, if you had a fiver what would ya stick it on?

Have to discuss the quarters, how would we get on against England or France in semi's. And if we did make the final would we stand any chance against NZ.

Hmm, if you can protect us from libel...

Very nice, we can definitely do those 3 things.

We do need to start disagreeing a bit more and I m pretty sure we'll disagree on good pundits!

I got a picture with Tony Buckley as my profile pic on facebook, now you expect me to rip him to pieces? I kid, it's a great idea and a Kidneyism I can't get my head around.

As you'll read on the gambling thread, I love an oul flutter. A "bet of the week" section could be a good regular thing to have.

I think we might leave out the quarter final discussion until we get there, obviously it will pop its head when we talk about Ireland vs Italy. I'm too afraid of jinxing it (!) and we don't to be repeating ourselves in proceeding shows. I found I was doing that in the beginning when we covered a lot of topics in Podcast 1. Maybe we'll just do a quick yes/no slot on your questions!

    Cheers for the contributions lads!

Looking forward to doing my bit for the show, not a boards regular but I've been looking at some of the comments surrounding the the Trimble/Earls situation and they make interesting reading given that both have so much to offer and are in good form

    Any more suggestions?

Couple of topics of interest.(to me anyway)

    1. The Olympics 7's , how the minnows in the 15's game will be turning their attention to 2016 and have an impact on rugby and what the fall out could mean to the rwc. Also what Ireland's approach to it will be.

    2. The future of Irelands centres and who will be stepping into the breach at 13?

    3. The impending retirements within next couple of years.....ie. ROG, BOD , POC DOC.

    4. Future targets for coaching set up ie Forwards coach? (dunno if IRFU has approached anybody yet have they?)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,433 ✭✭✭✭thomond2006

    Nice suggestions boss!

I think we've got enough topics for this week (we don't want to go over 35/40 minutes this time) but we'll definitely revisit those ones. The Irish team will have a very different look to it by 2015.

Never looked at Olympic 7s in terms of the minnows either, there could well be a conflict of interest between the Olympics and RWC there.
