The Olympic Council of Ireland (OCI) yesterday revealed ESB Electric Ireland as an official sponsor of Team Ireland for the London 2012 Olympics. The announcement was made by President of the OCI, Pat Hickey at the ESB Sportsco sports facility in Dublin 4 in the company of four of Team Ireland’s Olympic hopefuls Deirdre Ryan, Katie Taylor, Derval O’Rourke (pictured below) and David Gillick.

Padraig McManus had this to say: "ESB Electric Ireland is a proud Irish company with a positive and energetic vision for the future. We understand the important role sport plays both in our communities and our country, and indeed in portraying a positive image of "Brand Ireland" abroad. Sport has an incomparable power to energise a nation."

We're very much looking forward to working with the OCI and Team Ireland over the next twelve months, and are proud to support the team along the road to qualification.

    Thanks,

    David.

    Hi everyone,

The 2012 Olympics kick off 150 days from now, and as proud sponsors of Team Ireland, we're giving you the chance to take part in the Get Energised Olympic Challenge!

Winners will participate in a special health and fitness fun-filled day in April, focused on best-in-class energy tips from nutritionists, sports psychologists and fitness experts. There will also be an opportunity to meet some Team Ireland athletes!

To register your interest, just email your name and where you are from to sponsorship@electricireland.ie.

Six winners will be chosen, and each can bring their own guest.

    Thanks,
    Orla

To be perfectly honest I'd rather see Electric Ireland (and ESB in general) pull away from sponsoring sports like the Olympic Team or U20 Rugby, or Hockey, Basketball etc if things are so tight and they have no choice but to increase electricity prices. Give the funds back to the customer rather than to sponsorships. Fun Day? What nonsense! Health Fitness etc - all very commendable - but is it relevant to Electricty providers? Is it necessary if you are trying (according to all media) to reduce costs buy something like €140M? You can be a good corporate partner all you like but can we all afford it at the moment?
