    Hi Guys,

    I got a new phone from o2 today and the model number is 3GS - 8GB - R.

Can anyone tell me what the 'R' is for, cant seem to find any reference to the model number anywhere.

    Thanks.

    Think it means refurbished.

My first reaction too, but I hope not as pretty ****ty if O2 are selling/giving out refurbs without making that obvious

Does the serial number start with 5K? If so then it is a referb.

Hi guys, thanks for your help, after getting your comments I rang up fonecover and turns out it is reconditioned!! They are sending out a replacement now.

    Unreal

Did they say to you it was a new device when they sold it to you?

Well it was an insurance replacement - more fonecovers fault than o2 - they were adamant it wasnt reconditioned and then i told them it said reconditioned on the box - then complete change of heart and they are sending out a replacement!

To be honest an Apple referb is as good as new. I have a 2 year old 3G that s a referb and still going strong.

Of course if they said they were giving you a new one then that's another story.

Well while regrettable at least it wasn't a case of them selling you a refurb as a new device. At least it's sorted too.

If you can return it, the iPhone 4 will be the same price as the 8gig 3GS in a few weeks time.
