    Hi,

    I'm sorry if this is a really stupid question but i am going through the mortgage application for my self build and the bank requires (well its on theie checklist) a Homebond Certificate.
    What is this? can anyone help me?????

    have a look at that, its a sort of insurance policy that was quite popularly with builders, until the real craziness started that is :)

    If you mean self build as in there is no contractor involved then the HB cert isnt applicable. You should include a copy of your supervising engineer/architect/technicians insurance cover.

    You get the cert as far as I know on completion of the build, once it's been inspected at various points along the way... If you haven't started building yet, then I can't see why the bank is asking for it! As a BTW, my own view on the homebond cert scheme is that it's a bit of a joke - sure it covers your home should a wall start collapsing or this type of thing but generally you have no cover for appalling workmanship in most other aspects of the build, even if building regulations have been breached.

    i dont think i need one as it is a self bulid and there is no house as yet!!!
