I am going to install an insert stove(wood burning) in a space i had pretty open...What material can i use to build around the stove? Can I use standard 1/2" slab? Also the slab needs to come out from the exist wall so if i use for example 4x2 timber to build this out and then put the slab on, will the stove have an impact on this over time by drying it out?..H

Have a look at the manual that comes with the stove. It will specify a minimum distance for which surrounding materials must be non-combustible. That means no timber or plasterboard within that zone. Even the pink fireline board is not suitable as it is designated low or limited combustibility.

It the few I've specified we've had to frame the ope in metal / steel sections and used cement boards as lining. You need to watch out from skimming though - you need to coat the boards so as it will stick. The info is online if you google it.
