I have my new bike almost sorted now but need to get myself a good lock.

I want something decent but that won't break the bank.
I might also try to pick up a little disk-lock.

    Any suggestions?

    Ground anchor

    have a look here http://www.mandp.co.uk/

if its for at home then an anchor is the best way but when out and about try to secure it to something if you can..the best types are the brake locks as they are difficult to get off,
But no matter what type you get and no matter what type of lock it is if someone really want to take the bike there are ways of getting a lock off,

There are stories here somewhere of criminals using torches to cut through locks, i have even seen locks cut by grinders on busy streets and not a single passer by stops to ask what they are at.....

heaviest chain you can get to fit under the saddle and a lock like this one
    http://www.handyhardware.ie/product/11680/2070-Diskus-Plus-Padlock

im not recommending this one in particular but you want a lock that is really difficult to get a bolt cutters around a normal padlock can be cut in seconds something like this isn't exposed to being cut and if your chain is thick enough if should help keep your bike in one spot.

if bike thieves want your bike they will have it.. you want the biggest deterrant you can get. if you dont have it locked to something like a ground anchor or a poll they will simple pick up your bike and walk it into their van. if you use a disc lock only they can eaisy brake them and be off with the bike (or pick it up into to a van)

Almax is the way to go - http://www.almax-security-chains.co.uk/

You'll need to call them up to order for Ireland.

I've got the IV and it's seriously not a chain you could carry around (way too heavy). Try to get a ground anchor too, so you can secure the bike from anyone who might potentially lift it into the back of a van.

I use a Xena alarmed disk lock when out and about, which I think I got from mandp.

Well, at the moment I have the bike locked up in my garage so it's just something for out and about really. Something good that will fit under the seat and maybe a disc lock as well. I'm moving to a new place in a week or so which doesn't have a garage but hopefully I can bring the bike round back.

I have an almax, the best chain you can get. And it's cheaper than some lower quality Abus and Oxford locks.
But as Colm said, it's very heavy. Any good chain will be. Unless you have lots of room under a saddle it's a bit too heavy. I put it in a pannier sometimes and you can actually feel the weight of it while driving!
They usually give a good deal for shipping. Can't remember what they charged me, think shipping was even free. I was buying 3 of them though.
Don't forget, you'll have it for life (unless someone uses a grinder on it) so well worth it.
