10 day fortnight? what does it mean?...do they want to trick me??

    Can someone explain to me, please what 10 day fortnight means?
    also...
    ....i've been employed by company and before i accepted job i've been told that salary will be some certain amount...when i started was changed for lower....can this happen?
    I 've been also told i'm getting full time contract. when i read my contract it says ' full time employment...on the terms and condiotions... and than 1st of the term and conditions 'you wil be employed on a casual whereby'
    ,,.it's that mean i'm full time or i'm casual?

    ...after that i've been informed that next week i'm not working full time hours, i complained and than they said that employment is on 10 day fortnight....
    can someone explain to me what does it mean?
    ...i don't want to be 'tricked' just because of the lack of my knowledge...

    A fortnight is 2 weeks. There are 10 working days in 2 weeks.

    Casual work means you only work when you're needed. It seems to contradict the "10 day fortnight" definition.

    "full time hours" is usually taken to means a 35 to 40 hour week, however it doesn't have any legal meaning. Therefore it's important to read your contract. For example, does your contract state how long working days are?

    I'd expect that it means you get ten days work every two weeks.

    Worse case, this may be three days one week, and seven days the next. But probably it will be more balanced than that (eg 4 and 6).

    Full time vs Part time applies to how many hours per week.

    Casual vs Permanent applies to how often you can expect to get those hours.

    So it's quite possible to be full-time and casual, meaning you get 40 hours/week, when there is work to be had, and no hours/week when you don't ( or maybe just less per week).

    It's very odd to be offered a job at one rate, and told later that it's a lower rate. Technically it's illegal to change your contract without consent. But as you're new and still on probation there's not a lot you can do, unless the wage has gone below the minimum wage. IMHO, The best thing to do about it is to find another job, and to treat the "notice period" in the contract the same way they treated the wage rate.

    So I complained saying that it's not this what was agreed. ...so after making faces i got new contract saying full time employment on the terms and conditions: 'full time contract consisting on a 10 day fortnight'
    so does it mean that i will have my full time guarantee? ...can full time contract be 10 day fortnight??/

    yeah, it means they can have you work any of the 10 days in the fortnight, leaving time for your statutory rest periods. as justmary said, you could have 6 days one week and 4 the next. it depends on when they need you. i have seen this used a lot in the rail construction contracts where working times and locations would be subject to non-travel times of trains, so it was very hard to give hardline start and finish times.
