Heading to Berlin in November and 7 of us are trying to figure out what area to stay in - I've searched and researched on the internet and the mind is boggled so any opinions to help narrow down would be madly appreciated. The amount of apartments with the requisite number (and types) of bed is kind of limited.

So 3 apartments - 3 areas - none are standing out
Schoneberg - big apt with balcony
Friedrichshain - smaller apt on Straße der Pariser Kommune - which doesn't seem close to anything
    and finally
Prenzlauer Berg - awesome apartment but on the very outskirts close to Pankow

Depends how much money you'd have. I'd look more carefully for decent places closer to Schoenhauser Allee and Eberswalderstrasse in P.Berg and Boxhagener Strasse/Boxhagener Platz in F.Hain. The latter is a bit far out, but not really, and has lots of things going on, it's more 'interesting' than the gentrefied P.Berg, though you can't really go far wrong with that district. Alternatively, look to Kreutzberg, but try to stay in the older bit, even if the district *is* run by hipsters.
