Help, Ebay buyer says item broken, worked when I sent it

Hello, I sold a motherboard on ebay and it was working perfectly, had been using it until I posted it.

The buyer received it yesterday and today now saying its not working and wants to return it but is not willing to pay for postage either.

What are my options? In my ad I never said anything about returns and I don't want to accept a return seeing as it was working when I sent it.

He has opened a case against me, will ebay side with the buyer even though I did not offer any returns?

Easy enough to damage a motherboard if it's not installed correctly as I'm sure you know - but have you considered he could be attempting to return his old/faulty motherboard if he bought yours as replacement for the same make/model. Did you security mark it in anyway?

That being said I've also been on the buyers side of this situation having purchased a part and it just did not work on arrival with them swearing all over the place that it did work and in the end I got no result from ebay.

Hope it gets sorted for you either way.

No I didn't think of that, ebay is not fair on the seller if he gets away with something like this. Been on ebay for 2 years now and my first bad experience.

Am I obliged to accept a return even though I didn't have a return policy?

What happens or what is the process?

Motherboard sold for €53 and he wants €63 to partially cover shipping, I turned it down.

If you accept the return, then he must pay for it. eBay and Paypal will not allow him to claim for return shipping. Since he's asking for it, this might go in your favour as he's being unreasonable in the dispute.

I don't think you even have to offer to accept the return, not sure if eBay will force this on you.

He says he is going to try with different components and if it doesn't work he'll try return it then.

I won't even be able to test it if he does return it cause sold the rest of my pc, but I think I'll be able to recognise it as the one I sent or not. What can I do if its not the same one as I sent (I've no real proof though)

If nothing else its going to be a learning experience, I'll keep updating this thread as the dispute goes on.

    Any advice is appreciated

Ok now my paypal account is minus the the item price plus the p&p. I thought they don't get refunded the p&p?

Paypal can't just take money from you like that, he might have done a credit card charge back?
    Is his feedback good?

Yes hes got 29 100% positive and a member since 03. I'm still in the resolution centre talking to him, got him down to wanting €62.

He paid €82 including p&p and my paypal account is down that amount (after paypal fees)

I said I'd refund him €62 when I recieve the item from him and and check it.

What if its not the same motherboard I sent or its not in the same condition I sent it?

Do I still have to give a refund?

Has he cancelled the dispute, and has the hold on the funds been released? If so, then you're fine.
