    The inaugural Conamara 10k will be held on October 8, and promises to be one of the most scenic road races in Ireland, starting in Carna village, crossing the islands of Roisín an Chaladh and Muighnis, before reaching the turnaround point at Muighnis graveyard and heading back to Carna. As well as being a stunningly beautiful route, the coastal run is mostly flat and ideal for PBs. The race is being organised by Conamara triathlon club, TríSpórt.

    Conamara 10k:
    * Jones Counter measured
    * AAI Permit Pending
    * Chip-timed
    * Technical tshirt
    * Catherina McKiernan as race starter
    * Running and Health Expo
    * Water station at 5k mark (bottles)
    * Soup and Sandwiches afterwards
    * Kids Events Beforehand
    * Traditional music, dancing and singing at Carna Bay Hotel afterwards.

    Route here. Entry (€20 online, or €25 on the day) here. More details here and here.

    Just giving this a quick bump as it's next weekend. It looks good I have to say, plus always nice to have a race in the heart of Connemara.

    Is it just me...or is that a very short distance for a race?

    EDIT: thought it was on bike...when i see road race, cycling is the first thing that comes into my head...sorry

    Great race, good craic and just an all round good feeling for the 10k today. Really enjoyed it, and I'd say that the lad that beat Catherina McKiernan will have something to gloat about (even though he had a hefty head start :D )

    We had 174 finishers yesterday in Carna, and a good start for what will be an annual event. The men's race was won by GCH's Damien Ridge, and the women's race by Catherina McKiernan!

    Results are available here.

    Photos from the race will be online over the next few days, and will be available at the TríSpórt Facebook page.

    Also, there is a nice item on Nuacht TG4 about the race. You can find it by clicking here, choosing the Current Affairs button on the right of the screen, and under that, choosing Nuacht 08.10.11. The item about 10k Chonamara can be seen at 00:08:15.

    Thanks to everyone who took part, and who helped out on the day.
    Rónán

    Well done to the organisers on a brilliant event, everything was top notch, the expo, tech tshirts, the route, the grub after, cant fault a single thing in this, hopefully it will continue to grow over the years. A 10k race that ticked all the boxes, well done again.

    Really enjoyed this race - fair play to all the organisers! There are some nice ups and downs, and all the while the raging Atlantic egged us on! Great turn out, fantastic atmosphere and the presence of Caitríona McKiernan added a good deal to it all.
