It depends on a few variables... Model, trim, fuel type, milage etc !
What are you looking at ?

Being male you will likely pay up to twice what your sister did for insurance

Edit: Why did I presume you were male?

No I'm a girl.. She's only 18 though it gets cheaper when you're over 25 doesn't it? Tbh after checking the cost of vrt I might sell it on anyway!

First time driver on a provisional looking at importing a 2.0 bmw from the north and insureing/taxing it etc??

    Recession much?

Would in not be easier to just buy something cheaper and easier to get into a go here? Even an Irish 316 if you must get a bmw as your first car?

no I want an insurance quote to throw darts at... Why are you assuming I'm gonna break the law? I've no intention of driving until I have tax + insurance, and just because I came across as clueless about taxing my car doesn't make me an idiot

and thanks limerick man ha no I'm not gonna drive it until it's legal. That's if I bother now tbh am gonna shop elsewhere thanks for all the help everyone :)

I agree, its painfull here sometimes lately.
Its a '98 BMW what's with the "Recession much?" comments, I could buy one a month.
Then the take lessons and pass your test first brigade. - Why, it is not illigal to drive without passing your test first.

Answer the OP's question and if there's no wrong doing mind your own fcuking business.......

Thanks :) to be honest I'd rather get advice here first anyways...

Off topic but how many lessons are needed before I sit the full test?

It is if you don't have someone with a full license in the car with you

Its the associated VRT and sky high insurance costs

And that allows for a recession related comment? If the OP spent 4 grand on a Yaris as a first car no one would say anything. I think alot of people on here just have nothing better to do with their lives so they vent their anger on here.

Yes! Why are people saying a 2 litre BMW is terrible as a first car?

These cars are cheap as chips nowadays, cost almost nothing to maintain and thanks to the 2 litre 150hp engine, they're slow as ****.

What is it with the Irish and their attitude to big engines? :pac:

The only think I'd be worried about is that it's a RWD. Other than that nothing wrong with this car...
