    Hi Folks,

Can anybody tell me where would Gross fit into the order of Prizes in a competition?

I was always under the impression it came bewteen 2nd and 3rd.

    I think my club it's 1st, 2nd, 3rd, Gross, 4th etc.

I've only ever shot best gross one time and can't see a time when I would ever do it again - but I also won the overall 1st prize so Gross went to someone else 2 shots worse than mine. My biggest regret is that I didn't try to claim the gross prize instead of first even though it was a lesser actual physical prize - any aul eejit can come 1st - it's the gross that's the real prize, secretly I would contend that everyone knows that.

Nice one. sure you had the best Gross score, and you won the best prize. Unless the Gross prize was embossed with "best gross" you got the best of both worlds!

    1st, 2nd, Gross, 3rd etc....

When categories are being done the gross would be better than Cat 1 for example

It's my job to collate the results from around the country for national paper and I was actually only wondering the procedure for this really, most have it after second but some after third

We have it after 3rd place, and it's always a box of prov's. They'll come in handy since I won on Saturday :D

Bernicetomonty - I'm sure that the OP will thank you for contributing info relating to his opening post. Not too sure how he will react to the needy self promotion though

    Enjoy the pro v's fella
    Well done

A box of 12 prov's? Nice prize. What would you normally have as first, second and third prize and what's your competition entry fee like?
Our usual weekend competitions including monthly medals don't have a gross prize but there aren't that much category 1 players in the club anyway. For the majors including Captain's and President's Prize the gross prize comes in after 3rd also.

In my club it's always 1st, 2nd, Gross, 3rd. I tought that was the general way it done everywhere, but I suppose it can be specific to each club.

    Some clubs use the following.
    1st
    2nd,
    Gross or 3rd
    3rd or 4th
    4th or 5th.

The reason for this is that if the first or second placed player actually have the best gross then it is not right to award a gross prize to what is effectively not the best gross.

prizes vary but 3rd wil generally be worth more than the provs, so maybe around 50e. We have an ok sponsorship setup so prizes are decent, although majors can sometimes resort to attic-bound crystal!

As unattractive a trait as it is,knowing that you have an issue is a good start Bernicetomonty.

    Let the healing begin

Well done again on the pro v's

Continuously praising me for the win isn't helping. And don't call me Shirley Berni.
